Picturesque Kallmünz, with its impressive castle grounds, is worth a detour. The Jurasteig then leaves the Naab valley and takes its route through the Vils valley. Until Rohrbach, the route follows the valley, after which a semi-shadowy way goes uphill on the other side of the Vils. In the direction of Dietldorf, the hiker is greeted by a charming scene with horse farms near Birkhof. The way down to the Vils valley leads through a landscape full of hedges with numerous wild rose species in an unusual variety in early summer. The Jurasteig now takes us further north through diversified light pine and mixed forests.
For the last time, sunny Jura meadows can be seen near Greßthal, until you climb a longer stretch of path (which is not very steep) through the forest in the direction of Lanzenried. In some places here, foxglove grows, which is unusual for the Jura. From Lanzenried, the hiker can now walk for several kilometers on scenic wood paths through beech-mixed forests in the direction of Schmidmühlen. From the Hirschberg there is a short detour into the valley to the village of Emhof (take the branch route from the Jurasteig on route nr. 20 in the hairpin bend). If you do not wish to stay in Schmidmühlen for the night, you can find several inns in Emhof. Otherwise, just follow the signs further through the forest into the market place of Schmidmühlen, where there are several opportunities for rest after this longer route.
