The pilgrimage church of Habsberg "Maria Heil der Kranken" (St. Mary, Helper of the Sick) on the Habsberg (621 m) with its mostly unspoiled, unified interior and decoration from the Rococo era is unique. At the base of the pilgrimage hill you will come across the environmental education and regional development center 'HAUS AM HABSBERG' (for guided tours and events see www.hausamhabsberg.de).

We start our tour at the parking area near the church. The trail leads through the diversified woods and meadows of the Kuppenalb to Trautmannshofen. Numerous field crosses and other pious rural monuments line the trail, so that it truly honors its title as "pilgrim's loop". South of Engelsberg village the loop turns to the Northwest. Within short time we pass an impressive tile tree and we head on towards Hartenhof. Half a km later, after passing a small pond, the trail forks up in different directions. We keep to the west, heading straight towards the village of Trautmannshofen geht (abt. 2,5 km). Having passed Hartenhof, we will have to cross the B299 state road (ATTENTION!).

Another 15 minutes later we reach Trautmannshofen, while its clock tower can be seen from here already. After passing the cemetery we reach the village center. Here the magnificent pilgrimage church of the 'Unversehrte Muttergottes', a baroque curch of Dientzenhofer, ist clearly worth a visit.

The Schraml tavern provides tasty home-style cooking (closed on wednesdays, please make reservations for bigger groups under tel. 09186-452). The tavern also provides information for a guided tour to the church.

On your way back you will actually be walking on the road to Santiago for a while! From the village center the Wallfahrer-loup first leads towards Lauterhofen, but turns off to the right at a wayside cross after 500 meters. Within short time you will reach the Dietrichstein (628 m), representing one of the highest peaks in the Bavarian Jura. A chapel in the forest houses a chart from the Amberg Mariahilfsberg, showing the Mother of God. Feel free to have a break at the close-by resting place. An information board provides information about the former outline of the Schweppermannsburg.

The last section of the loop passes through the villages of Finsterhaid (wayside shrine) and Engelsberg. If you like, you can also visit the biomass plant there (for guided tours mail to info@eta-energieberatung.de). In Engelsberg the loop rejoins the Jurasteig main route again, which leads back to the starting point on the Habsberg.
