The Burg Lengenfeld loop leads the hiker directly to the cradle of the noble family of Wittelsbach – to the Castle of Lengenfeld, the birthplace of Bavaria's first Duke Otto of Wittelsbach.

You start from the Vils valley and walk across the Jura plains in the direction of the Naab valley either north or south of Dietldorf. The trail leads through the forest of Burglengenfeld for a lengthy  stretch. On your way you will meet single farms, small chapels and horse farms which fold elegantly into the diversified forest landscape which constantly changes its outlook here: Mixed forests and beech-dominated woods interchange with pine and spruce forests. There are also fir forests, wide meadows and fields lined with black thorn and hedges of wild roses. Time and again you will meet field crosses which are typical for the landscape and which document the simple piety of the local population of former times. But most impressive are the wide views into the Vils and Naab valleys which the hiker can enjoy again and again on this loop trail.

After about two hours you reach a marked junction, and from there the Burg Lengenfeld loop  leads directly into the town of Burglengenfeld as an optional branch lane. After three kilometers and after crossing the Naab you reach the historic old town. Above it towers the largest castle construction in the Upper Palatinate ("Oberpfalz"). The Ethnological Museum of the Upper Palatinate, the parish church of St. Vitus, the farming burghers' houses ("Ackerbürgerhäuser") on the market square, the little Altmann castle in the Almenhof, the historic town hall with its impressive Renaissance facade or the largest assembly of beer cellars in the Upper Palatinate with 47 connected beer cellars along the Kreuzberg are only some of the numerous attractions which are waiting for the visitor at Burglengenfeld. Cozy inns with outstanding food invite to a rest, so that the way back through the Vils valley to Dietldorf becomes a pure hiking pleasure.
